The Fall 2020 semester at the University of Louisville is operating on a hybrid basis. It is up to the discretion of the University professors to decide if a class that they teach will be conducted fully asynchronous (online) or a combination between in-person and online class sessions. Classrooms on campus must allow for proper social distancing, and all students and faculty must wear masks. On-campus housing and dining options are currently open; requiring that students and faculty also must adhere to CDC Guidelines regarding social distancing and face coverings. Registered Student Organizations, or RSO’s, are currently operating in limited capacity. All on campus, in-person events must be registered on Louisville’s “Engage” database and approved by the Student Government Organization. Sorority and fraternity recruitment saw a transition to a virtual recruitment week.

For our KY Beta chapter, all operations have been conducted virtually. From chapter meeting to recruitment council meetings, Zoom Conference has become our best friend. Our brothers are currently looking towards a video game tournament as a means to facilitate brotherhood virtually. We are also exploring an option that would allow for a socially distanced chapter meeting through the reservation of an on-campus room as discussed earlier.
Despite our current situation, we are attempting to keep moral high. As much as we would like to see our chapter operations reach a sense of normality again, it is important to do our part in keeping ourselves and the community safe. The KY Beta Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon is slowly finding its footing in an infectious and all-virtual world.
