Sigma Phi Epsilon KY Beta is a special place. This organization is home to 95 brothers who embrace each other and their authentic selves, and is the catalyst for personal and professional growth in young college men. As chapter president, I have the amazing opportunity to stand in front of such a high-performing organization and guide a remarkable group of men. It is my goal to lead my brothers in their aspirations to gain new experiences, invest in our community, obtain higher knowledge, and create a lifelong commitment to this brotherhood. The men of this chapter truly embody what it means to be a SigEp; displaying our Cardinal Principles of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love in their everyday lives. It is because of their constant pursuit to become better men, and their willingness to push the boundaries of what it means to be in a fraternity that makes the KY Beta chapter here at the University of Louisville a paragon fraternity among university staff and our peers.
Like many organizations across the nation, COVID-19 has created an interesting challenge. Our chapter has been required to pivot in order to follow state and university guidelines which limit face-to-face interaction. This creates symptoms of lower member engagement/retention and complacency. It is my unique goal this year to begin to seek and implement new ways to engage the brothers of KY Beta. We have begun planning virtual game tournaments, implementing hybrid in-person/virtual chapter meetings, small group discussion circles, and many more in an attempt to foster brotherhood while also upholding COVID guidelines.
Despite the many challenges that our chapter and individual members have faced in the past few months, KY Beta has shown resilience. We boasted a cumulative GPA of 3.49 last semester. We received the Talent Power Award for our recruitment efforts that utilized the Balanced Man Scholarship and virtual recruitment processes. We saw individual members take initiative and develop service projects centered around helping the homeless in the surrounding community. We never gave up.
I am extremely excited to see all the things that our chapter is able to accomplish this coming year. With the support of those around me, I believe that we can do anything. It would be a pleasure to have your support along the way.
With Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love,
Ian Pitt
